Academic Advisor

Advises and assists student athletes towards holistic development, including academic options and alternatives while understanding and complying with University, College, and NCAA rules and requirements. Provides tailored academic counseling to maximize student athlete potential and academic performance while balancing athletic and personal commitments.

Background

Melanie lives in the Bay Area with her husband and two children, but was born and raised in South Africa.  Her family recently published "The 17th Suitcase", a book of vignettes detailing their experience with Apartheid in South Africa and their immigration story to the United States.  

Melanie graduated from Cal with a double major in Political Science and Mass Communications and has also completed course-work in the Graduate School of Education. Prior to her role in the Advising Program, Melanie coordinated the Tutorial Program for the Athletic Study Center for approximately 10 years and has been the recipient of the "Excellence in Management" Award.
