Crossing the Finish Line: ASC's Degree Completion Program

The ASC's Degree Completion Program seeks to help former student athletes fulfill the promise of a Berkeley education and degree. In celebrating student athletes' past commitment to Cal athletics and the university, Berkeley's Degree Completion Program honors its commitment to these men and women who wish to complete the matriculation process and earn their degree.

Coordinated by Derek Van Rheenen, Stephen Johnson, and Bolota Asmerom, the Degree Completion Program is a collaborative effort between the former student athlete, their college and major advisors, the Office of the Registrar, and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. Staff within the ASC will work with the returning student athlete to develop an individualized graduation plan.

The Degree Completion Program clearly offers a win-win situation. It assists the University with its promise to graduate its student athletes and guides former student athletes to achieve a personal goal that will positively affect the rest of their lives. The former student athletes' academic achievements likewise inspire and motivate the youth of the community to place the highest priority on academics.

The ASC welcomes all coaches and graduated student athletes to join our collective effort by contacting and providing information regarding former student athletes who have not completed their degrees.
