Position: Academic Advisor
Overview
Monitor the academic progress of at least six intercollegiate sports teams,
working with a diverse group of student athletes. Provide individually tailored
advising regarding: course scheduling; college, university and NCAA
requirements; time management and study skills; campus resources; major
choices; and career options. Orient student athletes to the campus community.
Work with staff to develop and implement new and existing academic support
programs. Assist in recruiting new student athletes.
Required Qualifications
- BA degree.
- Direct experience advising/counseling student athletes at collegiate level.
- Demonstrated ability to help students balance rigorous academic requirements with athletics demands.
- Experience in assessing needs of student athletes and designing support
programs to fit these needs as well as in evaluating and reporting on students'
academic progress.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with faculty, coaches, administrators, and other advisors.
Desired Qualifications
- Master's degree.
- Sound working knowledge of NCAA requirements.
- Experience in a large institution with high profile sports programs.
- Experience recruiting collegiate athletes.
- Demonstrated expertise in labor markets, graduate and professional school
preparation, and other career preparation, as they relate to student athletes.
