Education 98
This course explores the relationship between language use and social settings, while also addressing various modes of communication as they relate to academic discourse. Education 98 teaches strategies that are proven effective for successful and efficient reading, learning and studying. These strategies include previewing, annotating, outlining, flash cards, summarizing, exam taking and essay writing. The course utilizes texts that represent various genres of academic writing that include textbook chapters, journal articles and other research and reference materials from diverse academic disciplines.
A number of students in the class will meet individually with learning specialists from the graduate school of education twice weekly in order to further explore the topics and strategies presented in class as they relate to the students' other coursework.
