Tutorial Program

The Tutorial Program provides a comprehensive set of services in order to foster student athlete independence, self-reliance, self-advocacy and integration into the academic community. Research indicates that students who are high academic achievers at universities like CAL are able to seek out resources of support on their own without the prompting of authoritative figures like a parent, advisor or coach. The Tutorial Program promotes and enhances students’ academic skills through individual, and group tutoring, workshops, courses and intensive special programs.

The ASC's tutorial support is designed to foster students' development of their overall academic performance in a specific course. They are trained to assist students with developing the skills, disciplines, practices, and ways of being a student. While tutors may be familiar with the specific course content, it is not a prerequisite for providing tutorial support. A tutor does not need to be familiar with the reading list and syllabus of a course prior to tutoring a student for that course in, for example, writing, mathematical computations, scientific formulations, time management, study strategies, etc.. Specific questions on course content always should be directed to Professors and GSIs.

In conjunction with the Student Learning Center, and the Graduate School of Education, the ASC provides these services during Evening Tutorial. Our tutors have a professional commitment to education and undergo a rigorous screening and training process.
