Scholar-Athlete First-Year Transition, Exploration, & Discovery Seminar

We recommend that all incoming first-year student athletes enroll in the Scholar-Athlete First-Year Transition, Exploration, & Discovery Seminar. This course focuses elevating sense of belonging, meaningful goal setting, mindful self-reflection, and how to make the most of curricular | co-curricular opportunities at UC Berkeley.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

The seminar will focus on enhancing the development of distinctive identity attributes; critical mindset competencies; and authentic engagement strategies. These foundational principles will allow class participants to gain a richer understanding of their unique journey on campus as they draw upon the common theme of balancing their versatility as scholars and athletes. By analyzing their own lived experiences in comparison to others, students will cultivate habits of critical reflection through self-discovery; expand collaborative relationships through group dialogue; broaden understanding of lifelong learning through diverse perspectives; and recognize the power of engagement through purpose-driven initiatives. Class participants will employ complicated conversation, cooperative exploration, and critical inquiry to facilitate insights via three core themes – Transition, Transform, and Transcend
