If a student's sanctioned travel events conflict with exams and significant class time, students are asked to make arrangements for conflicts with their professors and graduate student instructors.
Please consider some of these solutions
- Take the exam before departure
- Take the exam upon return
- Take the exam with a proctor on the road
- Take an online asynchronous exam
- Drop exam and increase percentage of other exams/assignments
- Watch course capture during the trip
- Review posted lecture slides on bcourses
- Review lecture notes from a friend/classmate
- Turn in assignment/paper on time
- Turn in assignment/paper with granted extension
- Join class via zoom if offered and if the competition schedule permits
- Attend office hours the following week
Exam Proctoring and Scheduling
If none of the above options work for a particular situation, then exam proctoring can be used. The ASC staff are approved and willing to proctor exams prior to a student's departure, after the student returns, or on the road. Proctors and students will sign an academic integrity agreement prior to the administering of an exam. Please keep in mind that the timing of taking exams on the road may be very difficult with the travel times, competition times, and the three hour time zone difference. For example, a 7-9pm PT exam in Berkeley would mean a 10pm-12am exam time on the east coast. And a student athlete may have an early morning competition the following day. Late night exams may result in low performance on exams and in athletic competition. Therefore flexibility with the start time of exams is greatly appreciated.
